Police have charged a 45-year-old Pahoa man in connection with a domestic dispute and a fire that destroyed a Hawaiian Beaches home Sunday night.

At 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, detectives charged Peter Lopes with first-degree burglary, second-degree assault and second-degree terroristic threatening. His bail was set at $37,000.

Lopes and a 41-year-old woman made it out of the home before it burned.

Prosecutors declined to charge Lopes at this time with arson or marijuana possession pending additional investigation, police said in a written statement.
